Precious Grit

18 × 24 in (21 × 27 in. framed)

Glass, quartz, semi precious stones, acrylic mediums, and lacquer on primed canvas

Precious Grit: inspired by a messy floor and the abrasive sensation of crumbs underfoot, an irritation that became a reflection on the beauty hidden within everyday life.

Built on a deep red undertone, the piece reveals layered washes of violet blue, jade green, and gold, creating a surface that feels both weathered and luminous. Semi-precious stones and heavily textured materials are embedded throughout the work, echoing scattered debris while transforming it into something precious and contemplative.

Through texture, light, and intentional imperfection, this piece invites viewers to reconsider the quiet joy and beauty that can be found within every moment.

Part of the “Elegy for the Everyday” collection which emerges from the artist’s personal sensitivity to disruption, especially movements of family and daily life. What might seem insignificant, crumbs underfoot, piles of laundry, dirty dishes, become obsessive distractions. This collection is curated to reflect an intentional practice of overcoming frustration by learning to notice, tolerate, and ultimately find thankfulness in disarray. Elegy- memorials for the daily frustrations that calm as the dynamics of life shift through passing years.
